One day at a time by Rebay Altizer.
So many times I will look forward to some event or something in the future, so much so, that I loose sight of the importance of each day. Having true faith in God takes focus and communicating with Him daily- asking Him to guide and direct us in truth. It is so important we keep our eyes on Him and involve Him in our daily life.
The song "Jesus loves me" seems like a childhood song, but when life gets hard, this song has an important truth even for adults. It's important to remember: Jesus does love you! He has a hope and a future for you.
Jeremiah 29:11New International Version (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
This is not just positive thinking, but the Word of God which is truth. It is Important to get the whole council of the Word of God. This is why a daily time of reading is important. If you are not in The Word daily, you will talk yourself out of His promises.
Keep Him Number One
Keep Him number one in your life. Don't feel condemned if you haven't, just start now. Think through what you do daily and put Him first. My husband told me a story about himself many years ago sitting in church and the Pastor asked, "Who is your God?". "Where do you spend the majority of your time and money?" He really thought about it. He got out his check book and after seeing taxidermy written all through his checkbook, realized, "I must worship fish and deer". I know this might sound extreme, but for him that was a moment of evaluation for his life. He still likes to fish and hunt, but it was at that moment he began putting his life in perspective. He began to move God to first place. We can have hobbies, we just can't let them have us. Our hobbies should not take all our time and money. Keep first things first.
We need to remind ourselves daily where we came from and where we are going. Daily, what we do determines our tomorrow. God made morning and night. If we do wrong one day, we get a chance to change it the next day.
Lamentations 3:22-23New International Version (NIV)
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
7 Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
8 The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime,
And in the night His song shall be with me—
A prayer to the God of my life.
Our time is in His hands. Despite how we feel about time, God wants us to know He fashioned it for our good. In fact, He has ordained special seasons to pass over us that have eternal consequence. And God wants us to know something—“our times are in His hands.” God controls the clock of our life.
Psalm 31:15English Standard Version (ESV)
15 My times are in your hand;
rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
Our time will come and go if we don't plan it. We all have asked ourselves, "where did the time go". I look at my 3 year old and wonder where did time go. I am in that place again in my life evaluating my time. I see I need to make some adjustments. I know when I keep Him first, He makes me make the most of every day.
Love this verse in the message Bible.
Place Your Life Before God
12 1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
