The Big Picture

I just wanted to share my scripture for the week- it goes along with what Reba wrote for us this morning.  I have resolved put to memory more of God's word.  I have started with this:

James 1:5-6 NLT

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.  He will not rebuke you for asking.  But when you ask him, be sure that you faith is in God alone.  Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

James 1:1-6 NIV

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.  But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

The Big Picture

by Reba Altizer

I had this question lingering in my mind for days and I finally feel The Lord has shown me some insight. If you truly walk with The Lord, by that I mean you talk to Him daily and read and meditate on His word, than I am sure at times you wonder:

Why won't God just fix this or get me out of this situation?

It seems God never answers me directly.  He normally takes me on a journey in His word. Nothing like God showing me the story in His word where Jesus was in a situation where He could have just took things in His own hands but He didn't. He knew He must fulfill His purpose the Father had sent Him to accomplish even though you see in scriptures he pleaded with the Father but resolved, "not my will but Yours be done".

Matthew 26:42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

Matthew 26:52-54

52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”here he could have called down legions of Angels.

The second story The Lord brought to my mind is:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).

King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, ninety feet high and nine feet wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon (Daniel 3:1).

Then he herald loudly proclaimed, “This is what you are commanded to do, O peoples, nations and men of every language: As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace” (Daniel 3:4-6).

The music sounded and everyone bowed low except for three men who stood tall: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

“Now when you hear [the music], if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I have made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?” (Daniel 3:15).

So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, 27 and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.

28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.”

A faith that is tested by fire is a faith that can be TRUSTED.

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you (1 Peter 4:12 NKJV).

Psalm 32:7
New International Version (NIV)
7 You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.

In Matthew 14 it talks about Jesus sending his disciples away in a boat, while he stayed behind to pray. At evening, vs. 24 "but the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary." vs. 25 "Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea." The disciples were afraid. vs. 27 "But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." Vs. 28 "And Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." vs. 29, "So He said " come". And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus." Vs. 30 " But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord save me!" Vs. 31 "and immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" vs. 32 "And when they got into the boat the wind ceased."

I felt The Lord showed me this morning that it is not the circumstances that cause Him to move on our behalf but Faith. It seems when you are going through hard times and things are not going your way, you have to redirect your focus on Remembering He loves you, He has good plans for you, and He will never leave you or forsake you.  Keep your focus and your Words going in that direction.  Believe He who knows the Beginning from the End will see you through your circumstances.  And remember, your purpose is the same as Jesus' when he walked on this earth and know that He will turn our sorrows to Joy as we trust in Him.

Isaiah 61:1-3
New International Version (NIV)
The Year of the Lord’s Favor

61 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3     and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

Thanks Reba!

This isn't a new song, but it's still a favorite of mine.

Decisions by Reba Altizer

I hope this finds everyone of you enjoying a lazy Sunday.  I just thought I'd let you know that I ate fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and buttered corn for lunch.  Then I took a tiny nap.   I plan on reading a little something when I sign off here.  I just purchased Kisses From Katie as recommended by a friend.  (Thanks Kim!)  Kim recommends perfect reading.  She is three for three or four for four- I can't remember.  Perfect Sunday!  Ladies,  Reba has another great  Sunday devotional for us today.   It's like a little gift I get to open in my email.  I am always blessed, and I know you will be too.  I know that the Lord speaks through Reba.  She is truly an amazing woman.  I really would like to get a video of her on here and show her off.  She's been described as a little sparkler and that she is... Do you know anyone that sparkles light, laughter, and the Love of God everywhere they go?
Thank you so much Reba.  ~ Kasse D.

Does it really matter what I do?

This is what I have been thinking about:
From what I have seen and understand, you can't be afraid to make a decision. We do have to remind ourselves though of one important thing: A decision that is made at the wrong time, out of the flesh, can have a ripple effect not just on our lives, but all those who are somehow attached to us.  If we have made a rash decision by making or not making a decision, or just letting things happen, it can mean life or death for us spiritually or physically. I sometimes watch the show Intervention with a heart to understand what really leads to a breakdown in their life.  Rarely have I watched an episode where an other's decision, someone close, has not impacted the breakdown in one way or another. It could have been a lack of parental figures, divorce, or abuse; Nevertheless, our choices almost always affect others. I believe we all must take responsibility for ourselves. I do not believe in blaming others for the way we are, but what I have resolved is I must be led by the Spirit of God in decisions I make weather I think they are big or small. To ask myself how it might affect my family, those I love, or even those who are watching my life. No matter who you are, weather you know it or not, someone is watching.  This is not to say you make decisions just to please people or do what they expect, but that you pray and do your best to wait on The Lord and ask for Gods help.  Trust in Him, who knows the beginning from the end, to lead you. This is called being led by His Spirit. Yes, we might sometimes miss it.  Most of the time we will not hear an audible voice, but to know I talked to The Lord about a situation and gave Him time to speak to me through His Word, this gives me the confidence to step out in faith and do what I believe I am suppose to do.

My Pastor gave a simple way which has helped at different times in my life.

Ask yourself three questions:

1.  Does it lift up the Name of Jesus?

2. Does it Agree with the Word of God?

3. Does it produce a peace?

Romans 8:14
New International Version (NIV)

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

I understand every decision we make daily does not seem like life or death but there is a reason I believe it says in:
Proverbs 3:5-9

New International Version (NIV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.[a]
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
    and nourishment to your bones.

It takes a conscious effort to do this.

Sometimes we are the one affected by an other's decision and we have to live with it.  We can still use these questions to base our reactions.

It is so awesome we serve a redemptive and transforming God. No decision we have made is too big for His redemptive transforming power. I just think God has given us everything we need in His Word and His presence in our lives to hear clearly.  He says:

 John 10:10
New International Version (NIV)
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

He desires to give us life and life more abundant and the rest of that verse clearly tells us it is not one sided.  The devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy. If we want the abundant peaceful life He promises, we must take time in our life to acknowledge Him and believe for Him to make our paths straight.  This is the true preventive solution for our lives.

In conclusion, there will always be decisions to make and we can't be fearful of making the wrong decision.  We just need to do it by faith and confidence and know that we are not in this alone. We have a Heavenly Father waiting for us to acknowledge Him and He will establish our steps.

Proverbs 16:9
New International Version (NIV)
9 In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.

Donna Clem

Ladies, I'm excited to get back in the swing of things.  I realize we have went from a feature everyday of the work week, down to two, and then we fell off into some sort of intermittent schedule.  In psychology that's suppose to work, but in blog land not so much.  My goal going into this year is going to be a feature once a week.   If I have time, and if we have plenty of submissions,  we'll put up more than one a week.  I also plan to share some randomness along the way.  Make sure to sign up in the sidebar to receive the posts by email.  This way you won't miss one random thing:)

Today we are featuring Donna Clem.  I don't know Donna personally, but she is a friend of a dear friend.  I really would like to have a personal interview with Donna as she seems fascinating.  For now, I hope this brings some inspiration to your day.

What is the Rush?

Another wonderful devo from Reba Altizer.  I just love this woman so much.  I am amazed at how she walks her life out listening for direction from the Lord.   She is truly a Spirit lead woman- I've witnessed her walk first hand and I desire to live my life like that.  It's it amazing how the Lord puts people in our lives at just the right time.  I am so thankful the Lord has crossed our paths.  Thanks Reba!  And ladies we have "features" beginning again this week~

Sometimes I ask myself this question:

What is the rush?

I have found if I have to make a decision right now, I should step away. I have always been a person who doesn't want to keep people waiting.  If someone emails me or calls me, I like to answer promptly. However,  I have learned when decisions are involved, pray first before responding. I have said several times this year, "I can't seem to make any fast decisions".  What I have resolved is I don't have too, and it is better if I don't .  It takes time to hear God's heart on what I am doing. I think the older I get, I  just don't want to be busy doing stuff.  I want to be busy doing God's assignment for my life.  This is where I get the most reward.

Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Psalms 27:14

There are many great things that happen when we wait on The Lord. I could be discouraged or feeling confused, and as I wait, things come together. Clarity comes, great ideas start, and I begin dreaming again. I start looking beyond myself, my faith starts rising, and I believe I can do anything God puts on my heart to do. Strength comes in our waiting time.

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

We are also reminded of God's love and goodness in times of waiting.

Meditate on his Word.

Meditate on God's Ways.

If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Exodus 33:13 NIV

Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. Psalm 119:97-99 NIV

The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11 NIV

Meditate on God's Works

Let me understand the teaching of you precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders. Psalm 119:27 NIV

I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. Psalm 143:5 NIV

They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. Psalm 145:5 NIV

Only when you do these things do you find the true peace of God to walk out His call on our lives without compromise, insecurity, or fear of not doing the right thing.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
Philippians 4:7
The Message (MSG)

God does not ask us to do anything hard.  It just takes a desire, a true hunger to please Him, and a true understanding that you need Him in your life.  And the desire to give Him the Glory for all the good things in your life.
