The Living Water

This week we began a Preparedness Series in lieu of National Preparedness Month. This is something  I’ve been gathering the courage to do for sometime now. The posts were written well before this series started. However, it took me awhile to gain the courage to pass them on. When I found out that September was National Preparedness Month, it seemed like the ideal time to quietly slip them in with out spoiling a good time.

If you’ve been following from the beginning, you know that I’ve set aside my Sunday Posts to share my faith. My only experience in sharing the Lord is what you have witnessed unfold right here on this site. I have no credentials and my “past” experience is pretty rocky.

I am a prodigal daughter. ( Luke 15:11-32.) Perhaps, you‘ll find you are one too. However, God is so good, and for a lack of a better way to explain it, He “awakened me” last August. It would take a year to tell you the story of my “homecoming”, but it is one filled with divine appointments, intervention, and movement on His part. It was nothing short of a miracle, and without a doubt it was divinely orchestrated by Him.

I’ve got to know Him over this past year by spending a lot of time in His word and in prayer. I feel like He gave me a precious gift last October. It was a gift of our most valuable commodity, time. I won’t go into all the details, but He cared enough to stop my crazy life just long enough for me to find Him.

I am amazed. I would no more ask Him to show me something, to tell me something, or to explain something, than He would show me in His word, send someone to me, or just whisper it to me Himself. This has happened all year long. I started learning to hear Him. It took awhile, and I’m still not always 100%, but I am here to tell you that He is guiding us all the time, if we are listening.

I’m getting somewhere with all of this so be patient with me. I’m telling this to tell you that the Lord wanted me to share something with you this week. I wasn’t 100% sure, but I felt like this series was prompted by Him. So as I was beginning to make the final touches, I asked Him one more time to confirm that this was what I was suppose to be doing. I prayed something like:

“Lord I just want to give you one last time to prevent me from doing this if you will. It’s now or never. I’m going to read your word and pray for an hour or so. I’m listening if you have something to say,”

I prayed for awhile. Then I randomly flipped my bible open to Ezekiel 33 and I began to read. I’m not going to tell you what it says. If you’re interested, go take a peek. Just as I had finished reading He said, “make sure you tell them I am the “living water”. Just like that…

What you don’t know yet is my personal journey in preparedness began with water. I am going to share that with you this coming week; However, today, I’d like to share with you what the Lord tells us about The Living Water.

John 4:12-14 This is the story of the woman at the well.

Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 7:37-38 AMP
“If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! He who believes in Me (who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me) as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow (continuously) springs and rivers of living water!”

Every person, within earshot, knew exactly what Jesus meant—He was comparing Himself with their only source of water, Jerusalem’s Gihon Spring. They all knew water was rare and precious, and without water there IS no harvest to celebrate.

The skeptics in the crowd called for His death. Others called Him a prophet. But the thirsty called Him “Messiah!”

He is our spiritual drink of water. Who is your source? Do you really believe that Jesus will supply “living water” in your life? He promises He will—a supply that will never run dry, turning our “deserts into pools of water, the dry land into springs of water” (Psalm 107:35).

Jeremiah 17:13 (NIV)
 Lord, you are the hope of Israel;
all who forsake you will be put to shame.
Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust
because they have forsaken the Lord,
the spring of living water.

Do you have enough Spiritual water in the storage of your heart? Are you thirsty?
